Public Spaces
I spent a lazy day with old friend J today, lying in the sun at Emmarentia Dam, listening to one of my very favourite musicians, Vusi Mahlasela. The concert was part of the Old Mutual Encounters, that has been set up by the good people at Oppikoppi and Old Mutual. I think it's very cool, and really important that people remember that we have some lovely, green open space in Joburg, and start making use of it. Constantly being jealous of Cape Town gets a bit pathetic after a while...
We spent the afternoon on a blanket, eating hummus and pastrami sandwiches, watching little kids running around and laughing at the white guys who always want to join in the dancing, and always look like tits. The sun came out, the sound was perfect, and there wasn't even a queue for the beers. All in all a perfect afternoon.
Of course, like a dufus, I forgot my camera, so this pic of Emmarentia that I found on flicker (yes, with a CC licence) will have to do. Next time, I won't be such a silly girl...
